HUMMINGBIRD DRUM is the very first drum I painted. I bought this 16 inch Remo drum many years ago and drummed with it "as is" for years until I was ready to try my hand at painting. I was in the crux of many changes in my life at the time I started painting, including a final separation from my ex. I started painting the swirls of golden and amber energy and I was curious about what I should do next. Then, a hummingbird announced its presence. At that time, I had heard a hummingbird outside my front door each day and had wondered why she was flying so close to my front door. Then I noticed it...a small hummingbird nest right next to my front door. This is very unusual for a hummingbird to build her nest in such a high traffic area. My kids and I loved watching her hover above our front door and one day, she even flew into my house! That's when I knew I was suppose to put her on my drum. Hummingbird represents: lightness of being, enjoyment of life, independence, resiliency, and bringing a playfulness and joy into your life. Hummingbird wisdom invites you to drink the sweet nectar of life and to open up to love and lightness in your emotional life. The hummingbird also beckons individuals to move quickly and to soar high above situations, since she defies the odds by doing the impossible. I was also drawn to glue Munay Ki stones around the drum, representing Universal love. On the inside of the drum, I glued my very first Munay Ki stone that I received. The drum is such a representation of me coming into my own completely. The Hummingbird near my front door had two babies after I painted the drum and her offspring gained strength and flew off. The next spring, a hummingbird came back and had babies again in that very same nest. One baby of that nest died. A death means a sacrifice and the kids and I blessed the baby Hummingbird who made it's way into spirit...flying freely forever now.
